Broad Creek - Nightmare route

Hour after hour as the Nightmare opens and closes you wonder how others found the trail and mapped it before. Of course, the Indians used the route long before Europeans found these shores, protected bays, and winding waterways. With our modern knowledge of tides, we are able to pick the right time to pass through the Nightmare. I wondered if others were simply smart enough to wait for high tide, or a rising tide, to make the passage easier.
